Energy Data Specialist

The Energy Data Specialist plays a key role in data collection and analysis initiatives to support EN-POWER’s benchmarking, engineering, analysis, and emissions reporting projects. Their primary responsibilities include collecting energy and building data, organizing energy data in preparation for analysis, and conducting data quality assurance to support the engineering, energy and emissions benchmarking services.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Support energy data collection initiatives (e.g., utility bills, client lists, etc.).
  • Communicate with stakeholders for data procurement including but not limited to partners, clients, utility companies, and internal ENPG teams.
  • Collect and organize utility bills and datasets (i.e., electricity, gas, oil, and district steam).
  • Request, retrieve, and report energy benchmarking information, including but not limited to ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, DOB NOW, and BEAM.
  • Perform energy benchmarking efforts, including but not limited to NYC Local Law 84/133 and other City & State program requirements.
  • Support Local Law 97 reporting efforts through carbon penalty calculations, projections and summaries.
  • Organize and review supporting documentation for Local Law 97 submissions.
  • Ensure data quality and support protocols for quality assurance with company-wide data sets.
  • Prepare client deliverables, summaries, and communications (i.e., Letter Grade one sheeters) for NYC Local Laws.
  • Support team and senior management in data analysis.
  • Support senior management projects, including initiatives with company and City-wide data sets.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science/studies, or other equivalent experience.
  • 1-2 years of experience in data analysis or relevant energy sector.
  • Prior experience with energy benchmarking ordinances and tools, including but not limited to ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager and The Center for Building Performance Standards BEAM reporting portal.
  • Understanding energy efficiency concepts and building energy use.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office with advanced expertise in Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large data sets, while understanding the importance of high data quality.
  • Possess ability to perform physical tasks including but not limited to: Sitting for extended periods of time; reading and recording information on handwritten forms and computer screens.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
